Carnegie Corporation of New York

Carnegie Corporation of New York is a philanthropic foundation dedicated to “the advancement and diffusion of knowledge and understanding.” The foundation issues grants for such purposes as education, international development, international peace and security, and the strengthening of democracy. The Carnegie Corporation primarily seeks to help the people of the United States. However, a small portion of the corporation’s funds may be used in countries that are or have been members of the Commonwealth of Nations. The American industrialist Andrew Carnegie established the foundation in 1911 with an endowment of about $135 million. The organization’s offices are in New York City.
