Collodi, << kuh LOH dih, >> Carlo (1826-1890), an Italian author, wrote the famous children’s story The Adventures of Pinocchio (1883). His real name was Carlo Lorenzini. He took the pen name Collodi from the village where he spent much of his youth. Collodi was born in Florence on Nov. 24, 1826, and worked as a journalist for many years. He also wrote humorous fiction for adults and many children’s stories. Collodi died on Oct. 26, 1890.
In Collodi’s famous story, Pinocchio is a wooden puppet carved by a kindly old man named Geppetto. The puppet comes to life and has many unhappy adventures because he is lazy and selfish. At the end of the story, Pinocchio has learned to be generous and honest and to work hard. As a reward, a fairy grants his wish and turns him into a real boy.
