Cousin is a person outside your immediate family related to you by blood and descended from the same ancestor. The chart with this article shows how cousins are related.
First cousins are individuals who each have one parent who are siblings. Two first cousins will each have two pairs of grandparents but will always have one pair of grandparents in common. Second cousins are children of first cousins. They always share a common pair of great-grandparents. A child of your cousin is usually called a first cousin once removed because that person is of the following generation.
