Crapp, Lorraine (1938-…), an Australian swimmer, was one of the dominant women swimmers of the 1950’s. By the time she retired in 1960, Crapp had broken 16 individual women’s records and shared 7 relay team world records. At one time in her career, she held every freestyle record from the 100 meters to 800 meters.
Crapp won two gold medals and a silver medal at the 1956 Olympic Games, winning the 400-meter freestyle and swimming on the first place 400-meter freestyle relay. She won her silver medal in the 100-meter freestyle. Her silver medal in the 1960 Olympics came as part of the second place 400-meter freestyle relay team.
Lorraine Crapp was born on Oct. 1, 1938, in Bathurst, New South Wales, Australia. After she retired from competitive swimming, she raised Thoroughbred and stock horses on the central coast of New South Wales.
