Cube, in geometry, is a solid bounded by six square faces of equal size. A cube has 12 edges, all of which are equal to one another. The volume of a cube, or the space it fills, is expressed in cubic inches, cubic feet, cubic centimeters, or some other cubic unit. The volume is found by multiplying the number that represents the length of one of the edges by itself, then multiplying by the length again. For example, if the edge of a cube is 4 meters long, the volume of the cube is 4 X 4 X 4, or 64, cubic meters. In arithmetic, the cube of a number is the product obtained when a number is used as a factor three times. Thus, the cube of 4 is 4 X 4 X 4, or 64. See also Cube root; Root.
