Deutschland uber Alles, << DOYCH lahnt OO bur AHL uhs, >> or Germany Over All, became Germany’s national anthem in 1922. Germany was divided into west and east sections at the end of World War II. In 1952, the third stanza of Deutschland uber Alles (Das Deutschlandlied) became West Germany’s anthem. East Germany chose a different song as its anthem. East Germany and West Germany were unified in 1990. United Germany then adopted the third stanza as its anthem. Hoffmann von Fallersleben composed Deutschland uber Alles in 1841.
