Dominion Day

Dominion Day is a holiday that commemorates the United Kingdom’s action on Sept. 26, 1907, which granted dominion status to New Zealand. The United Kingdom formally recognized that New Zealand had achieved full internal self-government. Dominion Day is not widely observed.

Canada Day, one of Canada’s most important holidays, was called Dominion Day until 1982. Canada Day honors the day that the British colonies of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and the Province of Canada were united in one country, called the Dominion of Canada.
