Duke Endowment

Duke Endowment is a trust established in 1924 by James B. Duke, an American businessman. Its purpose is “to make provision in some measure for the needs of mankind along physical, mental, and spiritual lines.”

Income from the endowment is distributed among specifically named beneficiaries in North and South Carolina. These beneficiaries include Duke University, Davidson College, Furman University, and Johnson C. Smith University; nonprofit hospitals and child care institutions; and rural United Methodist churches and retired United Methodist ministers.

The endowment’s offices are in Charlotte, North Carolina.
