Elohim << eh loh HEEM or eh LOH hihm >> is a Hebrew word that means God, a god, or gods, depending on the context in which it is used. In most cases, it means God. In the Hebrew Bible (the Christian Old Testament), Elohim is one of the three most commonly used words for God. Another is the divine personal name Yahweh or Jehovah, which often is represented in translations of the Bible as “LORD.” The third most commonly used word for God is Adonai, which describes someone who is superior and is translated as “Lord.”
