Engineers, International Union of Operating

Engineers, International Union of Operating (IUOE), is an international union affiliated with the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO). The IUOE primarily represents operating engineers and stationary engineers. Operating engineers work as heavy equipment operators, mechanics, and surveyors in the construction industry. Stationary engineers work in operations and maintenance in building and industrial complexes, and in the service industries. The union also represents nurses and other health industry workers and public employees in a wide variety of occupations. The IUOE’s members also include workers in a number of types of jobs in the petrochemical industry. The union was founded in the United States in 1896. Headquarters are in Washington, D.C.
