Federal district is a tract of land that a country sets apart as the seat of its national capital. The United States District of Columbia is a federal district. Other countries that have a federal district include Australia, Brazil, Malaysia, Mexico, and Venezuela. The district is called a capital territory in Australia and a federal territory in Malaysia.
