Fort Matanzas National Monument

Fort Matanzas, << muh TAN zuhs, >> National Monument is near St. Augustine, Florida. The Spanish built the fort in the early 1740’s. It served as a defense for St. Augustine against British colonizers. St. Augustine is the oldest permanent settlement established in the United States by Europeans.
