Foster, Sir George Eulas

Foster, Sir George Eulas (1847-1931), was an outstanding Canadian statesman. He was minister of trade and commerce from 1911 to 1921 during the administrations of Sir Robert L. Borden and Arthur Meighen. From 1882 to 1900 and from 1904 to 1921, Foster served in the Canadian House of Commons. He served in the Canadian Senate from 1921 until his death.

Foster was born on Sept. 3, 1847, in Carleton County, New Brunswick. He was educated at the University of New Brunswick and served as a professor of classics there from 1873 to 1879. Foster was knighted in 1914. He was a member of the Canadian delegation to the Paris Peace Conference in 1919. He also served as a delegate to the League of Nations in 1920, 1921, 1926, and 1929. He died on Dec. 30, 1931.
