Frazer, Sir James George

Frazer, << FRAY zuhr, >> Sir James George (1854-1941), a Scottish anthropologist, wrote the famous Golden Bough (1890). This book traces the development of the world’s religions from their earliest forms. Frazer also wrote Psyche’s Task: A Discourse Concerning the Influence of Superstition on the Growth of Institutions (1909); Totemism and Exogamy (1910); Folk-Lore in the Old Testament (1918); and Anthologia Anthropologica: The Native Races of America (1938-1939). Frazer was born on Jan. 1, 1854, in Glasgow and was educated at Glasgow and Cambridge universities. He taught social anthropology at the University of Liverpool. He died on May 7, 1941.
