Frick Collection, in New York City, is one of the world’s great art museums. The Frick is especially noted for its masterpieces of European painting from the early Renaissance through the 1800’s. It also exhibits outstanding collections of Italian bronzes and decorative arts. The Frick has a permanent collection of more than 1,000 works. In addition, the museum presents special exhibits as well as lectures and chamber music concerts, and it publishes scholarly catalogues and visitor guides. The Frick Art Reference Library is a leading research center for European and American art.
The Frick Collection is at 1 E. 70th Street in the former mansion of industrialist Henry Clay Frick. The residence was completed in 1914 and bequeathed with its contents to a board of trustees at Frick’s death in 1919. It opened to the public in 1935.
