Furze is a spiny shrub native to Europe and Africa. It is sometimes called gorse or whin. The plant has many dark green branches that are covered with spines. It grows to a height of 4 feet (1.2 meters) or more and has fragrant, yellow flowers. It is used as an ornamental plant or for ground cover in North America and grows wild in some areas.
