Gaels

Gaels, << gaylz, >> are members of the Goidelic (Gadhelic) branch of the Celtic-speaking peoples. Celtic languages originated on the European continent and spread to Ireland and the Isle of Man sometime after about 500 B.C.

The name Scotti was used for the Gaels of northern Ireland in ancient Latin documents. In the A.D. 500’s, Irish Scotti settled in Scotland and gave the country their name. Today, Gaels often refers to the people of Scotland’s Highland region. Gaelic literature ranges from ancient heroic tales to modern Irish and Scottish poetry and novels.
