George Washington Carver National Monument

George Washington Carver National Monument is in southwestern Missouri. It marks the birthplace of this famous scientist. He was born into slavery in a cabin on the farm of Moses Carver. Congress authorized the monument in 1943. The monument was established in 1951. It was dedicated in 1953. For the area of the monument, see National Park System (table: National monuments) .
