Gideon

Gideon, << GIHD ee uhn, >> in the Old Testament, was a hero of Israel who saved his people from the Midianites. Gideon and 300 followers, each carrying a trumpet and a jar with a torch inside it, surrounded the Midianite army at night. At Gideon’s signal, they smashed their jars, blew their trumpets, and shouted. The Midianites fled in terror, and the Israelites slaughtered them. The story is told in Judges 6-8.
