Gila, << HEE luh, >> Cliff Dwellings National Monument lies in southwestern New Mexico, in the Gila Wilderness Area. The monument was established in 1907. It contains ruins of dwellings built by early Indians. The dwellings are about 150 feet (46 meters) up in the sheer walls of a small, wooded canyon. They are made of stone, mud, and timbers.
