Glidden, Carlos (1834-1877), an American inventor, is best known for his share in the invention of the Remington typewriter. He met his co-inventors, Christopher Latham Sholes and Samuel W. Soule, while in Milwaukee, where he was working on the development of a spading machine for agricultural use. Glidden suggested that the three of them work together to produce a typewriting machine. They patented the typewriter in 1868. In 1873, the rights to the patent were sold to E. Remington and Sons (see Typewriter ). Glidden was born in Scioto, Ohio.
