Golden retriever is a medium-sized hunting dog. It has won recognition as an intelligent, hard-working gun dog, as a therapy dog, and as a guide dog for blind people. Golden retrievers were first bred in Scotland in the late 1800’s.
The golden retriever stands 21 1/2 to 24 inches (55 to 61 centimeters) high at the shoulder and weighs from 55 to 75 pounds (25 to 34 kilograms). The dog has a thick, water-repellent double coat of flat, golden hair. It has a friendly, good-natured personality that makes it a popular pet.
