Greasewood is a scraggly, thorny bush with stiff, dense, gray-barked branches and narrow, fleshy leaves. Greasewood grows over vast areas in the desert valleys of Nevada, Utah, and other states of the Great Basin. It particularly thrives in areas that have standing water or that periodically become flooded. The bush is a valuable food for livestock, but it may be poisonous to sheep when eaten as their only food in the spring.
