Greenwich (pop. 289,068) is a borough of Greater London. It is in east London and includes the former boroughs of Greenwich and Woolwich. The River Thames forms the borough’s northern boundary. The Greenwich meridian (or prime meridian) passes through Greenwich, near the building that once housed the Royal Observatory. The National Maritime Museum in the borough includes the Queen’s House, designed by the English architect Inigo Jones. The Royal Naval College was designed by the architect Sir Christopher Wren.
