Grub is the name commonly given to the larva (immature form) of certain beetles. Grubs have soft, thick bodies and often resemble caterpillars. Most are white or pale-colored. Many grubs live in soil and can cause damage to the roots of plants. Other insects develop larvae with a grublike appearance, including certain bees, moths, and wasps. People sometimes refer to these larvae as grubs.
