Grunt is an ocean fish that makes grunting sounds when taken from the water. Grunts make up a large family. Many are valuable as food. One of the most important food fishes of the American species is the pigfish, which lives along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts of the United States. It grows a foot (30 centimeters) long or more, and is light blue above and silvery below, with blue and brown side marks.
