Hallucination << huh `loo` suh NAY shuhn >> is a mental state in which a person sees, hears, tastes, smells, or feels something that is not present. Hallucinations may indicate the presence of a mental or physical disorder. But healthy people also may hear voices or see visions when they are deprived of stimuli, for example, when they are in solitary confinement or under the influence of drugs.
