Harmonium

Harmonium, << hahr MOH nee uhm, >> is a reed organ. Its keys control the flow of air across metal reeds. Air pressure is provided by bellows operated by the player’s feet. Below the keyboard are levers that may be pressed by the knees of the player to make the tone louder or softer. Above the keyboard are “stops” by which the quality of tone may be changed. The harmonium was developed in France early in the 1800’s. It is sometimes called a parlor organ.
