Harrison, Benjamin (1726?-1791), was a Virginia delegate to the Continental Congress from 1774 to 1777. As chairman of the committee of the whole, Harrison presided over the debates that resulted in the Declaration of Independence. He also signed the Declaration. Harrison was born in Charles City County, Virginia, and served as governor of Virginia from 1781 to 1784. He died on April 24, 1791. His son William Henry Harrison and his great-grandson Benjamin Harrison became presidents of the United States.
