Henbane, << HEHN bayn, >> is a poisonous herb that is especially fatal to fowls. It is also called black henbane. Henbane is native to Europe and Asia, and it also now grows in North America. It grows from 1 to 21/2 feet (30 to 76 centimeters) high and has sticky, hairy leaves and greenish-yellow flowers veined with purple. A drug made from henbane, called hyoscyamine, is used to dilate the pupils of the eyes.
