Hyderabad

Hyderabad, << `hy` duhr uh BAD >> (pop. 6,731,790; met. area pop. 7,749,334) is one of India’s largest cities. Founded in 1589 as a royal capital, it became the capital of the state of Hyderabad in 1950 and the capital of Andhra Pradesh in 1956. When the state of Telangana was created in 2014, Hyderabad became the joint capital of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

Hyderabad has many palaces and the Char Minar, built in 1591. This building has four minarets (towers) and four arches through which the main streets of the city pass. Hyderabad is a trading center and manufactures textiles, guns, glassware, paper, flour, and railway cars. It is the home of Osmania University.
