Irish water spaniel is sometimes called the clown of the dog family. Its coat of short brownish-red curls and the tuft of curls on its head make it look like a clown. Its tail is thin, tapering, and almost hairless. The Irish water spaniel is valuable as a hunting dog on land and in the water. It is considered one of the best duck retrievers. The dog stands 21 to 24 inches (53 to 61 centimeters) high at the shoulder, and weighs from 45 to 65 pounds (20 to 29 kilograms). See also Spaniel.
