James the Less, Saint, was one of the 12 apostles of Jesus Christ. He is often called James the Less to distinguish him from another apostle, James the Greater. Tradition has associated James the Less with James the Younger, mentioned in Mark 15: 40, and also with James the “brother of the Lord,” a prominent figure in the Acts of the Apostles. However, many Biblical scholars believe that they are three different people. James the Less is mentioned in all four lists of the apostles in the New Testament. He is not mentioned anywhere else in the Bible. His feast day is celebrated on May 1 in the Roman Catholic Church and October 9 in the Eastern Orthodox Churches.
