Jeffries, James Jackson (1875-1953), won the world’s heavyweight boxing championship in his 13th professional fight. He won the championship on June 9, 1899, by knocking out Bob Fitzsimmons in 11 rounds. He retired undefeated in 1905, but made a comeback in 1910. Jack Johnson knocked him out in 15 rounds. Jeffries later promoted amateur boxing. He was born in Carroll, Ohio, on April 15, 1875. He died on March 3, 1953.
