Judah << JOO duh >> , in the Old Testament, was the fourth son of Jacob and Leah. His life story is told in Genesis 29 to 49. Judah kept his brother Joseph from being killed and suggested instead that Joseph be sold to the Ishmaelites as a slave. Phares, one of Judah’s sons, is said to be an ancestor of the Messiah.
