Junior Leagues are community service and leadership organizations for women from age 18 through 45. The leagues seek to develop the potential of women and to improve communities through volunteer activity. Each league seeks to address community needs in such categories as education, the arts, criminal justice, urban renewal, and public health.
There are about 300 Junior Leagues in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the United Kingdom. Each league is self-governing, but all are affiliated with the Association of Junior Leagues International Inc. The association, established in 1921, helps the leagues carry out programs and promotes public awareness of Junior League activities. It also provides consultation and training for volunteers. The association’s headquarters are in New York City.
