Keeshond, << KAYS hond or KEES hond, >> is a Dutch dog of Arctic descent, related to the Samoyed, chow chow, and Pomeranian. It is the national dog of the Netherlands. Keeshonden are a familiar sight on Rhine River boats. The dog has long, thick, gray hair tipped with black. Its slanting eyes are marked with lines that look like spectacles. The head is wedge-shaped, and the tail curls tightly. Keeshonden stand 17 to 18 inches (43 to 46 centimeters) high and weigh 35 to 40 pounds (16 to 18 kilograms).
