Lake Louise, << loo EEZ, >> located in Banff National Park in southern Alberta, is called Pearl of the Canadian Rockies. The lake is quiet and peaceful because it is so sheltered by the Rockies that winds seldom stir its surface. The changeable turquoise waters of the lake, fed by a glacier, mirror the sky and the surrounding dark forests, cliffs, and snowy mountains. More people visit Lake Louise and Banff National Park than any other places in the Canadian Rockies.
The lake is about 11/2 miles (2.4 kilometers) long and 1/3 mile (0.5 kilometer) wide. It was named in 1884 for Princess Louise, who was the Canadian governor general’s wife and a daughter of Queen Victoria.
