Lake Nemi, << NAY mee, >> lies about 15 miles (24 kilometers) southeast of Rome. It covers less than 1 square mile (2.6 square kilometers). Partial draining of the lake in the 1930’s revealed remains of Roman pleasure boats almost 2,000 years old. German troops burned the boats in 1944, during World War II.
