Grand Lake O’ The Cherokees, << CHEHR uh keez, >> is an artificially created lake in northeastern Oklahoma. The lake is formed by Pensacola Dam on the Neosho or Grand River. It was created in 1940. The lake is 66 miles (106 kilometers) long and has about 1,300 miles (2,090 kilometers) of shoreline. It is the center of a leading resort area. The dam supplies electric power and flood control for the surrounding area.
