Lake Texoma is one of the largest artificially created lakes in the United States. It covers about 140 square miles (363 square kilometers) on the Texas and Oklahoma border, about 80 miles (130 kilometers) south of Oklahoma City.
The lake was formed in 1944 by Denison Dam, which was built on the Red River to produce hydroelectric power, control floods, and allow navigation. Lake Texoma has become popular for fishing, hunting, and water sports.
