Lazarus

Lazarus, << LAZ uhr uhs, >> in the account of John 11, was the brother of Mary and Martha of Bethany. He was raised from the dead after four days by Jesus Christ. The English poets Lord Tennyson and Robert Browning used this story about Lazarus in poems. The American dramatist Eugene O’Neill wrote Lazarus Laughed (1927), a play about Lazarus after he was brought back to life. The name also belongs to a beggar in the New Testament parable of the rich man and Lazarus (Luke 16: 19-31).
