Lightvessel is a type of ship or buoy that acts as a lighthouse. Most lightvessels are automatic, and their performance is monitored by a radio link to a land-based control station. Lightvessels operated by people on board have a crew of five, serving one month at sea then a month on shore. The crews are transported to and from the lightvessel by helicopter, and boats carry supplies and equipment to them.
