Limnology

Limnology, << lihm NOL uh jee, >> is the scientific study of lakes, streams, ponds, and other bodies of fresh water. Limnologists study the chemical and physical characteristics of these bodies of water. They also study the plants and animals that live in fresh water, and their relationship to each other and to their environment. Limnology is related to ecology, the study of the relations between organisms and their environments. Limnology has special importance in the management of fish for economic and recreational purposes.
