Lind, Jenny (1820-1887), a Swedish soprano, became one of the most famous singers of the 1800’s. She had a brilliant career in opera and on the concert stage. Lind was born in Stockholm. She made her debut in 1838 as Agathe in Der Freischutz. Three years later she went to Paris to study, and then traveled to Dresden, Germany, to perfect her knowledge of the German language.

After 1849, Lind gave up her career as an opera singer. From 1850 to 1852, she toured the United States, part of the time under the management of the American showman P. T. Barnum (see Barnum, P. T. ).
