Lindwall, Ray (1921-1996), was one of the great Test fast bowlers ever to play cricket for Australia. From 1946 to 1959, Lindwall took 228 wickets in 61 Test matches at an average of 23.05 runs a wicket.
Lindwall’s best bowling figures were 6 wickets for 20 runs against England in 1948. Cricket enthusiasts remember him for his almost perfect run-up and bowling action. Lindwall was also a useful batsman. He scored 100 against England in the third Test match in 1947.
Raymond Russell Lindwall was born on Oct. 3, 1921, in Sydney. He gave up the prospect of a career as an international Rugby League player to concentrate on cricket. He died on June 23, 1996.
