Lochaber

Lochaber, << LAWK ah bur, >> a local government area in Highland Region, Scotland, takes in the areas of Fort William, Ballachulish, Kinlochleven, and Ardnamurchan. Fort William is a tourist center. Corpach, nearby, is a papermaking center. Workers produce aluminum in the village of Kinlochleven and in Fort William. Mallaig is a fishing port. Farmers in Lochaber raise sheep and cattle and grow vegetables. Lochaber is very scenic, especially around the Ardnamurchan peninsula. Glen Coe, where the Campbells slew their long-time enemies the MacDonalds in 1692, is in the district of Lochaber. Ben Nevis, the United Kingdom’s highest mountain, rises 4,413 feet (1,345 meters) above sea level in the district. See also Highland .
