Lumière, << loo MYAIR, >> brothers were two French brothers who became noted scientists. Auguste (1862-1954) and Louis Jean (1864-1948) became known for their work in photochemistry. In 1895, they invented the Cinematographe, a combination motion-picture camera, printer, and projector. Some of the first motion pictures were produced and shown to audiences with this apparatus. In 1904, the Lumière brothers introduced the autochrome plate, the first popular direct-color photographic process. The Lumière brothers were born in Besancon, France.
