Magic Circle

Magic Circle is a British club for magicians that is open to people interested in the art of conjuring. Most of its members are amateur or semiprofessional magicians, but many well-known conjurers and illusionists belong to the club. The club’s motto, Indocilis Privata Loqui, means “Not apt to disclose secrets.”

The Magic Circle holds regular magical evenings, open to the public, at its clubroom in London. Members hold weekly meetings at the club where they try out new tricks and organize lectures on magic.

The club itself has many special features to baffle visitors, including a magic mirror and a trick staircase. The library has an extensive collection of books and documents on the history of magic, as well as the latest publications on the art of magic. The museum houses many examples of the apparatus used by magicians in the past.

The Magic Circle was founded in 1905 and has a worldwide membership of about 1,500 people. Men and women over the age of 18 may apply for membership. In 1996, the Magic Circle initiated the Young Magicians Club, a branch of the Magic Circle created especially for people ages 10 to 18. Membership of the Inner Magic Circle is the club’s highest honor.
