Marsh, Rod

Marsh, Rod (1947-2022), was an Australian wicketkeeper who won fame as half of the “perfect pair.” The Australian fast bowler Dennis Lillee was the other half. Marsh represented Australia in 96 Test matches between 1970 and 1984, during which he set a world record for the most dismissals. Marsh dismissed 355 batsmen, 343 being caught and 12 stumped. His record has since been surpassed by other players. Marsh played in 257 first-class matches, dismissing 869 batsmen (803 caught, and 66 stumped). In 445 Test, first-class, and one-day matches, Marsh totaled 1,348 dismissals. In batting, his highest Test score was 132. His Test batting average was 26.51 runs per innings. He retired from cricket in 1984.

William Rodney Marsh was born on Nov. 4, 1947, in Armadale, Perth, Western Australia. His son Daniel became an outstanding cricket player for Tasmania. Marsh died on March 4, 2022.
